
HAWKS DOWN BARONS IN OPENER

The Hawks opened there Western Jr C Semi Final series Saturday night on the road in Durham against the Hanover Barons and came away with a 6-1 win. The Hawks came out strong and held off the Barons early and Pat Looby scored the only goal of the first period from Brent Feltz. In the second the Barons ran into penalty trouble and JJ Sparling scored a pp goal, then Jacob Patterson, and Boyd Brown scored late in the second period to head to the second intermission up 4-0. Barons scored early in the third, but the Hawks responded two minutes later on a give away as Jared Culliton scored, then Kevin Baetz scored on a blast from the point to close out the scoring and make the final 6-1 and give Mitchell a 1-0 series lead.
Josh Nurse was solid in goal stopping 29 shots to record the win , and Michael Nigalis took the loss, with third period relief from Dave Clement as they faced 34 shots. Game two goes Sunday night in Mitchell at 715pm.
