SEASON ENDS ON SOUR NOTE
Submitted By Hawks press on Wednesday, March 10, 2010
The Mitchell Hawks season came a crashing down, on Tuesday night as they hosted the Hanover Barons in Game #6. The capacity crowd saw the Barons come out and score 2 pp goals in the first on some suspect calls to take a 2-0 lead after one.
The Hawks came out and scored the lone goal by Mac Campbell and a nice feed behind the net from JJ Sparling to cut the lead to 2-1 and continued there strong play as luck of three goal posts stood in the way of the boys taking the lead. Then at the 11:41 mark a questionable major penalty to Baetz for boarding changed the whole series, and then a measurement of Nurses goal pads by Hanover , which where illegal, created the margin of difference and sent the Hawks brass and the capacity crowd to dissbelief . The Barons then counted two pp goals and an empty netter late to record a 5-1 win. Thus ending the season for the Hawks who having survived a first round scare from Mt.Forest , really deserved better in this series and could very easily be heading to the league final, as apposed to not. Mitchell outshot Hanover 34- 31 .
